Frequently Asked Questions

Working Principle
-
How do Equflow flowmeters work?
Our turbine flowmeters measure flow using infrared reflections, a more detailed explanation can be seen in the video below:
-
How accurate are the measurements?
Accuracies of 99% can be achieved with our flowmeters.
-
What is the K-factor?
Each flow tube has its own K-factor (calibration factor). The K-factor is the number of pulses per liter of liquid going through the flowmeter. Each flow tube is factory calibrated and the K-factor is listed on the label attached to every flow tube. Typical values for the K-factor can be found on the respective product pages.

Measured Medium
-
What can the flowmeter measure?
The flowmeters are used to measure low viscosity liquids. The recommended flow range, temperatures and pressures are listed on the respective product pages. If you want to make sure our flowmeters will work in your process conditions, feel free to contact one of engineers here for one-on-one support.
-
Can Equflow flowmeters measure gasses?
The flowmeters are tested with liquids; when using gasses we therefore cannot make any claims with respect to accuracy and longevity.
-
Can Equflow flowmeters measure chemicals and/or corrosive liquids?
Due to the use of fluoropolymers (PVDF and PFA) the flowmeters have excellent chemical resistance.
-
Can Equflow flowmeters measure opaque and/or colored liquids?
The reflection measurement used in the flowmeter means that opaque and colored liquids can be measured. And in the case a white opaque liquid is used, we can supply the flowmeter with a black turbine.
-
Can Equflow flowmeters measure liquids with particles?
We always recommend using a filter in line before the flowmeter. Recommended pore sizes are 100 – 250 micron depending on the model. Particles that can pass through these pores are no problem for the flowmeter.
We have a Filter Disc with a pore size of 100 micron available in our shop which can be used in line before our flowmeters.

Characteristics
-
What material is the flowmeter and its wetted parts made of?
On the respective product pages of each flowmeter you can find a list of wetted parts, i.e. the materials that come into contact with the liquid.
-
What process connection does the flowmeter have?
The available process connectors per flowmeter are listed on the product pages.
-

-
How do I connect the flowmeter to my system?
By default the flowmeter is connected using three wire leads at the end of the sensor cable. These wire leads are for the power supply, ground/0 V, and signal output. The default cable length is 1 meter, but this can be extended up to 20 meter. Alternative connector options, e.g. a 3.5 mm jack plug, are also available.
-
What is the flowmeter's power supply?
The flowmeter can be powered by a 5 – 24 VDC power supply.
-
What is the flowmeter's output signal?
The signal output of the flowmeter is a digital NPN square wave signal. We also have D/A converters available in case an analog output signal is required.
-
Application Use
-
Can I use the flowmeter for monitoring the flow?
Yes, you can. We have two products available that can be used with our flowmeter to monitor flow:
- The Flow Display is a compact display that can be used to show the current flow rate.
- The Flow Controller can be used to monitor the flow rate and show the totalized volume. There is also a dual flow version available to which two flowmeters can be connected.
-
Can I use the flowmeter for dosing / batching?
Yes, you can. We have a Batch Controller available that can be used with our flowmeter for batch control applications. It uses relays to open or close valves based on the volume that is dosed.
-
My application requires a product modification, is this possible?
Yes, we offer custom-fit and OEM solutions to meet your wishes and needs. You can request support here to get in touch with our engineering and discuss your application.
-
Calibration
-
Are the flowmeters calibrated?
Each flowmeter is factory calibrated. This calibration is performed using a continuous flow of water.
-
Do I have to calibrate the flowmeter in my process?
It is recommended to perform a calibration if your experimental conditions vary from our test conditions, e.g. if you use a pulsating flow. Typically, the deviation from our calibration is constant, so you only have to determine it once.
-
Can I receive (calibration) certificates of the flowmeter?
A Certificate of Conformity is available for all products. For each flowmeter, a Calibration Certificate is available on 1 or 5 calibration point(s). Examples of all certificates can be downloaded.
All certificates can be included in our online shop. If you would like to receive certificate(s) after you received your order, please contact our sales team for more information.

-
Are the flowmeters gamma stable?
PVDF disposable flow tubes can be sterilized with a gamma radiation dose up to 50 kGy.
-
Do I have to recalibrate each flow tube after exchange?
When using disposable flow tubes, you can either manually enter the K-factor of a new tube, use the average of the flow tubes you ordered (if a slightly lower accuracy is not a problem), or use our Barcode Scanner.
